We’ve been waiting for Game of Thrones sequel news for years and finally the author finally announces some good news. What can we discover?
It has been 12 years since we had any concrete news from the sequel to a novel by game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire). In fact, since the last book, the TV adaptation has had to deal with many events beyond what’s in the books, much to the chagrin of fans. Additionally, it’s one of the reasons why the HBO series’ ending has received so much criticism for its script choices, despite the involvement of its writer, George RR Martin.
Game of Thrones sequel news
According to the blog, work is being done almost daily on Winds of Winter, the penultimate novel in the Game of Thrones saga no blog by George RR Martin. You can read and discover this in detail:
Yes, yes, of course I worked on Winds of Winter. Almost every day. Write, rewrite, edit, write some more. Make steady progress. Not as fast as I would like…certainly not as fast as YOU would like…but progress nonetheless.
So it’s not over yet, but progress is steady. I have to say that game of Thrones grew in popularity in 2010 and as the pressure on the quality of the author’s published books has increased, it must seem like an impossible feat for the author to live up to fans’ demands. On the other hand, it seems surprising that after 12 years the book is still in preparation… We know that several hundred pages are already finished, but we have no idea of the possible publication yet. Obviously the author works quite slowly.
The Story of a Myth
Five more novels have been published so far, and two more volumes are set to complete the series. Here is the current full list:
- A Game of Thrones (1996)
- A Clash of Kings (1998)
- A Storm of Swords (2000)
- A Feast for Crows (2005)
- A Dance With Dragons (2011)
- The Winds of Winter (in preparation)
- A Dream of Spring (in preparation)
As you’d expect, the books offer more depth and complexity to the characters, and provide more context and background to their actions and motivations. Some key supporting characters in the books are poorly developed in the series, and some characters have different or deeper character arcs. In addition, the books contain many subplots that were not in the television series. If you love Harry Potter, you know the movies are similar.
