Wayfinder – The Highly Anticipated MMORPG From Airship Syndicate – Coming To Early Access On PC And PlayStation August 15. This follows a series of invite-only closed betas earlier this year. If you don’t get in, the door will open for you shortly.

Wayfinder is a third-person action MMO with a strong focus on collecting, much like Warframe – a game that owes a large part of its game design DNA. Known for its predecessors Ruined King and Darksiders Genesis, Airship Syndicate is currently working with Warframe developer Digital Extremes to bring this new MMO to the world. As such, it has similar characteristics to a sci-fi MMO.

In Pathfinder, you play as… Pathfinder, traveling deep into the dark in search of loot and adventure. You can team up to enter various challenging dungeons, or enter the open world to experience all kinds of excitement and danger. Of course, it’s all very early days, but from what we’ve played in the closed beta, there’s something special about it.

Those who opted into the early access version of Wayfinder will be able to try out the brand new sharpshooter Wayfinder venomess, a new twist on the standard battle pass, complete with reward towers, and of course play in-game without worrying about server shutdowns.

Creative Director Joe Madureira is quoted in the official press release for the Early Access launch: “Early Access is a huge milestone for the entire studio. Traditionally, we’ve released boxed games like Darksiders: Genesis or Lord of Destruction: League of Legends Stories, and then moved on to our next project. It’s incredible that this really is the beginning.”

Launching an MMO is so much fun. We’re in a weird time where many heavyweights like World of Warcraft and FF14 are in a stable position with large audiences, while smaller titles like Guild Wars 2 and Black Desert Online are able to grab a slice of the MMO market. After the World of Warcraft exodus during Shadowlands, Western players became curious and keen to at least try out new games on the market. Some even stay!

So maybe Wayfinder has a place. Warframe seems to be going well so far, with Soulframe looming on the horizon. Maybe we’re witnessing the beginning of a golden age of brand-specific MMOs – where collecting countless weapons and characters is king. Or maybe it’ll flash like dozens of MMOs before it – I guess you’ll have to go into early access to find out for yourself!

Let us know if you’d jump into Wayfinder below! Do you think it looks interesting?
