Players do not lose their games due to inactivity

due, Games, inactivity, lose, players

Ubisoft has made it clear that there is no risk of losing the game library and account in the event of inactivity.

The message about the possible loss of their Ubisoft account including games shocked many gamers. There was a threat of account closure in the event of inactivity, although it was not entirely clear what period of time this would cover.

The French developer has now reported on the explosive topic and is providing clarity regarding the deletion of accounts.

Accordingly, Ubisoft gives the all-clear: No digital game libraries will be deleted, even in the event of inactivity.

As Ubisoft explains to IGN, the first thing to do is to comply with the legal requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which stipulates the handling of personal data. The company’s own guidelines would continue to be in line with “legal requirements and industry standards”.

But there are also specific requirements that are taken into account for deletion. However, Ubisoft accounts with games in the library are generally not included.

Ubisoft takes the following into account when deleting:

  • The account’s gaming activity since its creation
  • Account Libraries: Accounts containing purchased PC games are excluded from deletion
  • Duration of account inactivity, i.e. last login to our ecosystem (including Ubisoft games on Steam and other platforms)
    • In practice, to date, we have never deleted accounts that were inactive for less than 4 years
  • The existence of an active subscription associated with the account.

If you should still receive an e-mail announcing an impending account deletion, you will receive this 30 days before the upcoming deletion. If you then log in to Ubisoft, you will receive a notification with a link to reactivate.
