XP, Leaderboards, and Performance

As we continue our march towards the new Xbox Insider Hub, we will make changes that will affect how the Xbox Insider Hub looks and behaves now. As we mentioned in our previous post, some of those pieces will be more recognizable than others. This includes the changes you will see starting tomorrow.

We Appreciate Your Engagement

We know Xbox Insiders appreciate XP, so do we! XP is a public offering to you for providing feedback to feature teams and game developers by saying what you like and what can be improved. We were given XP for completing Surveys, Qest, and completing bugs! Many of you have also noticed when we are funny that we knew other people were going through our system just to get XP rewards.

Making this XP public was driving an unintended motive. And this has created a wide gap created between users with a lot of XP, compared to those that are well-connected but have a low note. Because Xbox Insiders are the highest and longest-running members of the Xbox community, it became clear that a long-standing member of the program had an incredible XP advantage compared to the latest Xbox Insider.

The changes we are making today include how we record XP and display leaderboards. Most of these changes occur under the hood in the service layer and improve it in the full functionality of the app itself. However, this change will affect our Leaderboards because of the way we make a service call for that data. As we transformed XP and future promotion programs into the Xbox Insider Hub, we felt that this was the right time to retire XP for developers in the current version of the app.

XP is not going away

You can still earn points for points by design, survey, and completions! Many of you have found your place on the top boards of the world by frequent engagement, quality feedback, and you have been with us for many years. To you, thank you very much. There are many new Xbox Insider users who work on the Xbox Insider Hub almost daily and provide high-quality feedback. Thanks, too. The impact it has on the Xbox is very important.

We want you to be part of the journey to the new Xbox Insider Hub. Stay up to date with some of the changes we're making here on the Xbox Insider Blog, r / XboxInsiders subreddit, again @XboxInsider on Twitter. We're so close to having a structure ready to give Xbox Insiders a try to let us know what you think. Stay tuned!
