One of the first things you should do is to update Windows to its latest version, because in the last versions of the disk performance has improved considerably. However, with all this, it is not a problem that has disappeared, but fortunately there are a few things you can do to improve performance on your own and without much effort.
Improve disk performance in Windows
Let's start by taking a look at which tools built into the operating system can help us make the hard drive work better.
Activate text input
Activating this parameter will allow the PC to save some temporarily stored data before writing it to the hard disk, rgreatly reducing the time it takes
To do this, you must go to Service Manager (right-click the Start button -> Device Manager), and then when you look at "Disk Drives" and drop down the menu. Select your drive, right-click and select "Properties". In the window that opens, go to the "Policies" tab, where you can enable the cache.
Recommended enable this parameter on all hard drives you have on a PC.
Create the partition on disk and organize the data
Creating partitions on a computer helps Windows make it easier to find the files you need, reducing download times. This way you will be able to organize the in formation in a better way, for example through split programs, games in one and texts in another.
To create a partition, you should simply go to Windows Disk Manager (right-click startup button -> Disk Management). There, first you will need to "make room" for the disk, if you are covered by one partition. To do this click on it and «Decrease the volume», and use the free space to create a new partition.
Configure units
The old disk defragmenter is now called "Optimize Drives" in newer versions of Windows 10. In traditional hard drives, it will override it as it used to, and in SSDs it will look for bigger naming problems, register errors and so on. Right now it's still very useful to improve disk performance in Windows.
To access this tool, simply click on Start and type "Configure driving".
External tools improve disk performance
There are also free external tools that can help us improve Windows hard disk performance, and one we will recommend – in our case – BleachBit. This tool removes "orphans" and unnecessary files to free up disk space, as well as trash including cache and cookies. It's the same or smaller as the popular CCleaner but without damaging the system.
The best part of this tool is that it lets you choose exactly what you want to scan and remove, giving us full control over how it works.
