Many want to support research on corona virus with the computing power of their own PC. Many want to support research on corona virus with the computing power of their own PC.

Yesterday we reported on Nvidia's support for the research initiative Folding @ home (FAH) and how players can use the computing power of their PCs to fight the corona virus. As can be seen, the willingness to help is literally overwhelming: in some cases the servers are completely overloaded.

In the official folding forum, but also in the comments on GameStar, many users commented on non-functioning servers. These were temporarily unavailable because they could not keep up with the rush. Fortunately, a solution is already in sight: two new 100 TB servers have recently been set up and are supposed to remedy the situation.

»We were overwhelmed by the support«

In the forum, FAH thanks the numerous helpers, asks for patience and promises to ensure that everything runs smoothly as soon as possible. If servers are taken offline, this usually happens because the generated work orders for the individual PCs ran out and new ones had to be created.

How to help: If you want to participate in FAH with your PC, you can download the Folding @ home client and use a web interface or the tray icon in the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar to determine how hard your hardware should be used.

The initiative is currently focusing on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, but other research projects, such as breast cancer, are also benefiting.

The novel corona virus is currently making headlines and has an impact on large parts of public life. Many people are in quarantine or have limited mobility. The gaming world is also affected by this:
