The release of the originally Playstation-exclusive game Horizon Zero Dawn for the PC causes some displeasure, but most PC gamers should be happy about it. The developers themselves now provide one more reason for this in the Steam forum.
The question of support for resolutions in Ultrawide format such as 21: 9 is answered in the affirmative with the following words:
"We will support Ultrawide! As others have emphasized in this thread, the first screenshot on the shop page (from Steam) was made with the PC version."
If you download the screenshot in full size from the Horizon Zero Dawn steam site, you will see that it was shot in 21: 9 resolution 3440×1440. The following picture shows the comparison to the still common 16: 9 format:
Ultrawide resolution is still a niche
Console titles can easily limit themselves to the 16: 9 format, since Playstation & Co are connected to TVs on the shelf where no other format plays a significant role. Porting console games like to support only 16: 9 resolutions.
The fact that the first screenshot on the Horizon Zero Dawn shop page is available in 21: 9 resolution can therefore be seen as a good sign for the PC version, especially since the majority of players are still in 16: 9 – Resolutions gambles.
