The whole world is literally under the spell of the corona virus. Public life is restricted and, accordingly, most of the people stay at home – and that causes corresponding rush of users on Steam.

The fact that quite a few game fans stay at home because of the corona virus means that Steam has increased demand and therefore also set new user records. After all, online services such as Steam are particularly popular for pastimes at home.
As from surveys by SteamDB emerged, a new record of simultaneous Steam users was set by over 20 million players over the weekend. At its peak, 6.2 million of them were directly in games.
#Steam has just reached a new concurrent online user record of 20 million, with 6.2 million currently in-game, likely due to many people staying at home due to the #coronavirus.https://t.co/bzLMfMOJvD# COVID19

The most frequently gambled title is the longtime tactical shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, followed by Dota 2 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege. Earlier this month, Counter-Strike had set a new user record with 924,045 simultaneous players; this number has now risen to the new peak of 1,024,845 gamers (!) over the weekend.
In view of the increasingly restrictive measures to curb the corona virus, the end of the flagpole on Steam is probably not yet reached. In the game industry, other companies are also responding and arranging isolation and home work for their employees, including Rockstar, Bungie, EA or Microsoft.
