We don’t want to think about it, but Only a few days left until 2023. The approaching Christmas celebrations are already floating in our heads, but in the Apple Park offices, we are already thinking about next year’s agenda. 2023 is already finishedall the actions that were pending in recent weeks have already been carried out, all that remains is to earn cash.
And in all the moves that Apple has made in 2023, we have to think about all the products that no longer sell and that we will lose forever. If you start counting, the list isn’t as short as you might think.
The MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
It was quite talked about after the redesign of the high-end MacBook Pro. Apple decided to keep a base model, but already abandoning the old MacBook Pro design from the Intel era and moving forward with the Touch Bar.
With this, Apple’s portable lineup now has two unique designs: that of the MacBook Air and that of the MacBook Pro. Some may miss the teardrop designs of the old MacBook Air, but I don’t think the Touch Bar is something desired.
The “mini” iPhones
This one particularly hurts me because I was partial to this range. The arrival of the iPhone 15 meant the end of sales of the iPhone 13 mini, showing that people prefer the big screen and greater battery life to something small and comfortable. I will always defend him: it’s a shame.
Those who still want a small iPhone have the iPhone SE 3 as the last “survivor”, but it won’t last long. Rumors claim that the iPhone SE 4 we’ll see in a few months will grow to look more like the iPhone 14.
The MagSafe battery and MagSafe Duo charger
In a completely planned move, Apple decided stop selling your own MagSafe Duo external battery and charger which simplified the charging of devices. These may be the first steps toward eliminating all accessories that use the Lightning port, but maybe they just weren’t selling enough to keep them in stores. We’ll know better once the transition to the USB-C port is complete with the December 2024 deadline.
Leather accessories
More cuts in accessories, but this time not because of European regulations but because of environmental awareness. Everything that included skin ceased to exist, highlighting high-quality silicone and alternative materials as in the case of FineWoven cases and bracelets. This material hasn’t received many positive reviews, with some even deciding to carry their iPhone 15 Pro without a case.
Foretold Death Bonus: Lightning
The Lightning cable isn’t dead yet: it’s still included with new iMacs and is needed to charge the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. But it must be said that 2023 is the year he was fully condemned. Now the USB-C cable is the one that takes priority in everything.
We officially bury Lightning at the end of 2024, at which point Apple will be required by law to use USB-C everywhere. From there, the Lightning cable will disappear as consumers upgrade their iPhones. We will continue to see it, but it will remain as something outdated that everyone wants to get rid of.
