This is what the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III say about the campaign duration joke at the Game Awards.
At the Game Awards 2023, Christopher Judge made a joke at the expense of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The voice of Kratos from the God of War video games actually came on stage to present the award for Best Performance. He joked that his speech wouldn’t last as long as last time. Last time it was longer than the current Call of Duty campaign.
Judge said: “I’m not going to stand up here and give long speeches. I will stick to the script. No eight-minute speech like last year. But joking aside, my speech was even longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign.”
However, the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III didn’t find it funny. Among other things, Nelson Plumey, associate art director, said God of War games had lower user retention than the shooter. Darcy Sandall from Sledgehammer Games, however, noted that such comments were out of place and that the event was about celebrating the gaming industry and its successes.
At 3 to 4 hours, the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is quite short compared to previous parts. According to previous reports, the game was developed in just 18 months. On platforms like Metacritic and Opencritic, this resulted in the worst rating for a main game in the series.
