Something strange happens in Hideo Kojima’s first trailer fromsome people speculate that there may be a hidden silent Hill refer to.

Another year, another Game Awards reveal with more to offer than the actual awards themselves. As host Geoff Keighley often likes to do, he brought out his best friend Hideo Kojima to show off a new game called OD (previous leaks suggested the Metal Gear creator was working on a game called Overdose horror game, that seems to be it). As is often the case with Hideo Kojima, there are some familiar faces here, including Sophia Lillis (It, Dungeons & Dragons), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and German actor Udo Kier (“Call of Duty: WWII”).

Trailer’s weirdness grabs people’s attention CentralXbox, especially Gere’s part in the trailer. At certain moments, just briefly, you’ll notice letters appearing in his mouth, and when they’re all put together, they spell out “Atami.” For those who don’t know, Atami is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Shizuoka, written in kanji as “Shizuoka”, but when you separate the kanji, “Jing” can mean “quiet” or “quiet” and “Okay” means “hill”. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?

Silent Hill fans will easily remember that Kojima was working on a project in the classic horror series, best known for a demo called PT, which upon completion revealed that the full game would be called Silent Hill 》. This is a very exciting project for many, as it stars The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus (who would later appear in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding) and features Gillel The talents of Mo del Toro and Junji Ito.

Interestingly, the subtle tease in the OD trailer wasn’t the only Silent Hill reference of the night. Kojima’s entrance is so over the top, he appears on stage through a wooden door with an LED light above it, and wouldn’t you know it? Looks almost exactly like what appeared in PT. Obviously these are just jokes, but Kojima does seem to be hinting that he’s recycling some ideas from the canceled Silent Hill.

No other concrete information about OD has been confirmed, or even confirmation that it’s actually a game, and there’s no release date, so for now we’ll have to wait to hear more about it and Death Stranding 2.
