A chill descends from the frozen depths of the mountains in Midwinter Blight, causing the Diablo IV Team the chance to get into the holiday spirit… and try something new.

Out of December 12th to January 2nd Kill ferocious Blightfiends and defend yourself against the Red-Cloaked Horror as you try to preserve even a semblance of hope for the denizens of the Fractured Peaks. Midwinter Blight is our first limited-time event in Diablo IVwhich brings something special to Sanctuary.

Chance to experiment

In Diablo IVPlayers can enter Sanctuary via either the Seasonal or Eternal areas. The Eternal Realm is where new challenges and core gameplay continue to exist in Sanctuary. Many sweeping changes to the game impact and influence this world state.

In our seasonal section, we introduce new seasonal content, such as Midwinter Blight. The seasonal section gives us the opportunity to craft and introduce new and exciting types of gameplay. Since the majority of season-specific gameplay will no longer remain after the season ends – aside from mechanics that we may reintroduce in interesting ways – it gives us broader latitude to try new things without impacting the Eternal Realm.

And now we introduce: time-limited events. Similar to the seasonal realm, these events typically only impact a given region for a much shorter period of time compared to seasons. This gives us even more freedom to tinker and try out new things.

The magic of the holidays in Midwinter Blight

Midwinter Blight introduces Gileon the Bard, sadistic Blightfiends, macabre Frigid Husks, and the evil, monstrous Goat Devil known as the Red-Cloaked Horror. These colorful and frightening aspects of Sanctuary only last until the end of Midwinter Blight.

A gameplay-specific wrinkle to Midwinter Blight lies in the twilight aspect. This offensive aspect is exclusive to the limited-time event. It increases your attack and movement speed for 12 seconds and, when empowered by the Midwinter Ward, reduces its cooldown by 1 second for each demon killed.

Additionally, the special Gileon’s Brewing Elixir provides an additional XP boost (10% more than typical Elixirs) and works throughout the Sanctuary, not just the Shattered Peaks. These unique elements offer players an additional blessing… maybe even a little holiday magic?

Although Gileon’s Brew and the Aspect of Dawn will persist beyond the end of Midwinter Blight, they have specific mechanics that depend on the location and gameplay elements in this limited-time event.

Demons just want to have fun

While content like Abattoir of Zir targets the most intense topics Diablo IV Fans, limited-time events are available for players exploring Sanctuary for the first time and wanting to try something new. The overall gameplay loop is tighter, you can get some nice cosmetics, and it’s not meant to be nearly as taxing as a level 100 nightmare dungeon.

Midwinter Blight comes at a time in the Season of Blood when players may be chasing Uber Uniques or trying their hand at Echo of Lilith. By scouring the land for ice-cold husks to dismantle and plague fiends to kill, hunting for some exclusive holiday items should be a great way to enjoy the season.

The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, and what better way to do that than restoring Hibernal Square in Kyovashad? We’ll have a mug of Gileon’s brew in Midwinter Square soon. Have fun killing!
