It has been a few months since any new character joined the ranks of Overwatch, but it seems that that could be about to change soon. Blizzard had anticipated the arrival of a new character known as Athena, although it is still not very clear when it could arrive in the game, if before or after the release of the expected Overwatch 2. a launch window of this sequel would have been leaked.
Soldier-approved 'Project Athena': 76 has been unveiled in a new Blizzard post on 'Dr. Mina Liao's personal records«. Your goal is help change the public perception of Omnics, especially as violence against Omnics increases in the Overwatch world. It is highly likely, then, that this character is an Omnic, although nothing is yet known about his class in-game.

After this reveal, and considering that Athena artificial intelligence had previously appeared in Overwatch lore, theories have skyrocketed about who the new playable character might be. There are those who bet that it is a thief. Mina Liao instead, or that Athena is somehow related to Echo, another character Blizzard anticipated late last year.
