It’s been five years since the world fell in love with House Flipper. That was 2018, when everything seemed so much simpler. Even Empyrean’s development team didn’t expect the original game to find such a dedicated, loyal following as it painted and polished everything in the days leading up to release.
But House Flipper — a small, independent project about renovating houses and making a little cash flipping them — caught on. Media interest in the game was noticed at launch, and soon a large community was drawn to the busy work of transforming humble abodes into luxurious residences for the rich and famous. Following the hugely successful Steam launch in 2018, a 2020 console port followed, and for two years House Flippers around the world have been content to hunker down on their projects on PC or console.

But now, a new era has arrived. Bigger, better homes are here – with more materials and options than ever before for eager homeowners looking to leave their indelible mark on the property ladder. Everything from the visuals to the gameplay has been overhauled, and even little things like quality-of-life details have been rethought, remodeled, and retooled. House Flipper 2 is an improvement over the original House Flipper in every way.
Just like five years ago, the goal in House Flipper 2 is to buy a house, renovate it, and then sell it, making a substantial net profit in the process. But within this formula, you can let your imagination run wild; would you like a Scandinavian-style coastal vacation? Transform your semi-detached suburban house into a popular local cafe? Adding an outbuilding to your bungalow so grandma has a place to live nearby? As we all know, the world in House Flipper 2 is your oyster—you don’t have to just stick to where you live.
If narrative is more your thing, you can enjoy the quirky story set between the top of a mountain and the endless sea in the peaceful town of Pinnakov. According to the game itself, it’s a place “where time slows down and friendly residents are ready to trust you with their homes.” Having everything set up here will help you discover quirky stories and watch slice-of-life anecdotes unfold, providing a surprisingly captivating backdrop for all your hammering and wrenching.
Fixing up your home isn’t all demolition and levels, though. There are a lot of other odd jobs you’ll need to do to make these residences livable. Whether you reach for a paint roller, vacuum cleaner, trash bag, sledgehammer, or cleaning tools, you’ll never be short of things to do while working on a project.
Each of these tools looks (and feels) better than in the previous game, giving you more precise control over their functionality and giving you more utility when equipping each tool. Drawing, in particular, is no longer a chore because you can mark it with tape so you don’t accidentally “overdraw the line” and ruin hours of hard work.
It helps make everything look like it’s part of House Flipper 2. It keeps you immersed in the game and helps you focus when you’re in the house responsible for coding. The developers at Empyrean have more experience working on the game and decided to go with a more unique art style to make everything feel more unified when you play. result? A more cohesive library of in-game assets, and a better foundation for the wider community to provide more items to the game over time.
Enter Sandbox Mode; a free-for-all mode has been added to the game to appease creative fans who want free reign to play however they want and for as long as they want. Here, players can build and flip their houses using the same tools as the developers themselves – it’s deep, detailed, and incredibly free. If you see any of the houses in any of the game’s trailers, you can make it (if you practice long enough). Just try not to lose track of time.
House Flipper 2 will be released on Steam on December 14th.
