“Hogwarts Legacy” is in the race to destroy a license whose commercial success is beyond doubt. And that’s not a joke, because it would simply be historic.
Even though Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t nominated in any category at the Game Awards, it still remains one of the biggest releases of the year. The sales numbers prove it, and we have some exciting news on the subject. Avalanche Software’s title may be on the verge of taking down an iconic franchise that has long dominated the market.
Hogwarts Legacy VS Call of Duty MW3
In the USA, a certain tradition has been established in the video game sector for 15 years. Every year we are entitled to the results of game sales and overall we always find one license at the top: Call of Duty. She is almost unbeatable. This only happened in 2013 and 2018. In fact, back then, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to surpass the number of copies of the FPS sold, but these are exceptions. However, Hogwarts Legacy may arrive there too.
The throne isn’t just reserved for Call of Duty and Rockstar Games productions. At least that’s what the latest version of Avalanche Software suggests. Returning to Hogwarts was a nice surprise for most players and the success doesn’t really surprise us. We’re still talking about the Harry Potter universe. In November 2023, in the United States, it completely surpassed Call of Duty Modern Warfare III in the physical and digital sales rankings. If things continue like this, it could well become the best-selling game of the year in this country.
Well, it goes without saying that he is being closely followed by the Activision franchise. Especially since MW3 was only recently released as “Hogwarts Legacy” and yet it has already catapulted itself to second place on the podium. Nevertheless, “Hogwarts Legacy” has one thing to offer. In fact, the Nintendo Switch version has just arrived. Regardless of quality, it landed during the Christmas holiday season. We therefore imagine that it will end up under many fir trees. To be continued, but if the game ends up defeating Call of Duty in the US, that would be historic.
A complicated start for the Switch version
Unfortunately, the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy was not unanimous. The Portage is described as a disaster for various reasons. Digital Foundry was merciless about this. Simplified lighting, 576p in portable mode or 720p in docked mode, frequent drops to 20 fps, anti-aliasing, in short, it is not recommended. The developers then responded and provided a patch. From what we could tell, it’s good for the game, especially in terms of loading times when entering/exiting Hogsmeade shops. Here are the rest of the changes in the update:
- The book on the pedestal no longer falls victim to clipping
- Improved loading times when entering and exiting Hogsmeade shops
- Fixed texture flickering when the character stood at a certain distance from the Golden Seat
- Fixed a bug where it was impossible to destroy pillars after restarting a mission
- Fixed a number of save-related issues
- Additions and changes to game credits
- Fixed an issue where a line of dialogue related to the mission to save the Phoenix was repeated. When reloading a save, this line appeared again even though the phoenix wasn’t there
