The Final Fantasy XVI development team has been disbanded.
Final Fantasy 16 developer “Creative Business Unit 3” no longer exists. Studio head and Final Fantasy 16 producer “Naoki Yoshida” confirmed this in an interview with the Famitsu Magazine.
He announced that his team has been disbanded, with the exception of the DLC team responsible for expansions like this month’s Final Fantasy 16: Echoes of the Fallen. Yoshida added that he doesn’t expect there to be some kind of full-fledged follow-up game to Final Fantasy XVI in the style of Crisis Core, although he doesn’t rule anything out.
“The development team for FF16 has been disbanded, with the exception of the main DLC team, but at least we cannot imagine that we will develop a sequel or spin-off to FF16. This time I have accumulated a lot of knowledge from FF16. Instead of continuing with one title forever, I would like to use this knowledge to consider new challenges, such as the next title. However, if you ask me if there will be anything related to FF16 in the future, I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen, so I’m not going to say anything explicitly.”
