Jump Festa 2024 has just taken place and a flurry of announcements has excited Japanese audiences, who have come in large numbers to find out what next year will be like when it comes to anime. And one of the surprises came from a popular franchise making a comeback!
The Shônen at the beginning of 2024?
Blue Exorcist, known as Ao no Exorcist, is a manga by Kazue Kato. First published in 2009, it is a shônen in which two completely opposite worlds, Assiah (world of humans) and Gehna (world of demons), are connected like a mirror image. The world of demons is under the rule of Satan and it has always been known that the transition from one universe to another is impossible, but the demons knew that they could do this by assuming the power of a human. And since then, these creatures have been wandering unnoticed among people, a bit like the aliens in the “Men in Black” films. To combat this demonic threat, exorcists have emerged to destroy the demons that threaten the world of Assiah. Exorcists have been acting on behalf of the Vatican for more than two thousand years.
The story of Blue Exorcist revolves around the aptly named Rin Okumura. Along with his twin Yukio, they were raised by an exorcist, Father Shiro Fujimoto. One day they are shocked to learn that they are actually the sons of Satan, the ruler of the world of Gehenna. Orphaned by his mentor, Yukio flies into a devastating rage and draws a sword of unimaginable power. Hoping to defeat Satan, he enrolls at True Cross Academy, a school for exorcists.
What should one be exorcised of?
During Jump Festa 2024, the production and distribution company (specializing in anime and music) released a new trailer for the upcoming anime based on Blue Exorcist. Driven by the opening theme “Eye’s Sentry” by Japanese group UVERworld, this new series will cover the Shimane Illuminati arc and of course follow on from the events of the original manga. With a quite masterful production, the series promises to be under the best auspices. In addition, during this event organized on December 16, Jump Festa 2024 reserved a stage exclusively dedicated to the Blue Exorcist and visitors could enjoy the presence of the voice actors of Rin Okamura (Nobuhiko Okamoto), Yukio Okamura (Jun Fukuyama) and Shiemi Enjoy Moriyama (Kana Hanazawa) and finally Izumo Kamiki (Eri Kitamura).
