Experience a carefully curated selection of renowned European cities in the latest addition to the Microsoft Flight Simulator experience.

European Cities I is the latest exciting addition to Microsoft Flight Simulator’s rich and immersive global experience. Microsoft and its partners Bing Maps and Vexcel have created five example city regions across Europe for this update: The Hague (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Košice (Slovakia), Zagreb (Croatia) and Cádiz (Europe). Each was created with the highest visual fidelity using the latest geographic information and TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface modeling.

In detail:

The Hague:

The Hague is the third largest city in the northwestern European country of the Netherlands and the functional center of the state government. The renowned city is the seat of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. Around the world it is considered an “international city of peace and justice”. Located on the North Sea coast, The Hague offers an incredibly diverse range of attractions including:

  • The Peace Palace
  • A set of international legal institutions
  • Het Strijkijzer (The Flatiron), an architectural award-winning skyscraper
  • The Hoftoren (Court Tower), a striking tower that is considered the third tallest building in the city
Brussels:

Brussels is the capital and most populous city of the northwestern European country of Belgium. Its rich history dates back to the 10th centuryTh Century and today it is an important center for national and international governance, finance, art and education. Located in the valley of the Senne River in the north-central region of Belgium, Brussels features architectural works representing a range of styles. Attractions include:

  • Royal Theater of La Monnaie, a famous opera house
  • Church of Our Lady of Laeken, which is visually distinguished by its high towers
  • National Basilica of the Sacred Heart, one of the largest and most famous churches in the world
Košice:

Košice is the second largest city in the Central European country of Slovakia after the capital Bratislava. Located on the Hornád River on the eastern edge of the Slovak Ore Mountains, Košice is the governmental, cultural, educational and economic center of eastern Slovakia. The city, whose history dates back to 1230, is characterized by a variety of architecture, ranging from classic to ultra-modern. Notable landmarks include:

  • Cathedral of Saint Elizabeth, the largest church in Slovakia
  • Business Center Košice, one of the modern wonders of the city and
  • Urban Tower, a Renaissance bell tower
Zagreb:

Zagreb is the capital of the Central European state of Croatia and the most populous city in the country. It lies south of the Slovenian border on the southern foothills of the small Medvednica Mountains, which are part of the Dinaric Alps. Built on the Sava River, the city of Zagreb dates back to Roman times and the city today offers a stunning visual mosaic of classical and elegant modernism. The attractions Zagreb has to offer include:

  • The Croatian National Theater, a beautifully decorated venue for opera, ballet and theater
  • Ban Jelačić Square, the central center of Zagreb
  • The Cibona Tower, Croatia’s third tallest building
Cadiz:

Located on the Atlantic coast in southwestern Europe, Cadiz is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe. It was made in 1100 B.C. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 1st century BC and served as an important port over the centuries. Today, Cádiz is the capital of the province of Cádiz, part of Andalusia, the most populous autonomous region in Europe. Situated on a strip of land surrounded by water, Cadiz is known for its coastal scenery and beautifully preserved architecture. The city’s architecture is among the most impressive in Europe and includes:

  • Casa de Iberoamérica del Ayuntamiento de Cádiz, a former prison that is now a cultural venue
  • Cadiz Cathedral, a Baroque cathedral known as the “Cathedral of the Americas” because it was built with proceeds from trade between Europe and America
  • The ruins of the Roman Theater of Cadiz, one of the largest structures of the Roman Empire
