New data shows that the PlayStation 5 sold directly compared to the Xbox Series X/S at a ratio of 3:1 in 2023.
Sales figures for the Xbox Series X/S look anything but rosy in 2023. As we previously reported, sales in Europe fell by an alarming 52% in October.
In November 2023, a global decline of 27% was recorded compared to the previous year, although Black Friday boosted sales in many countries. Even Portal sales managed to beat Xbox Series X/S numbers, as we reported.
Microsoft hasn’t achieved much with its Black Friday bundle promotions and has to line up not only behind the PlayStation 5, but also behind the almost seven-year-old Nintendo Switch. Thanks to full warehouses, Sony was able to increase sales by 376% compared to the previous year.
For Sony with the PlayStation 5 the past meant Black Friday is the biggest success in PlayStation history. Reuters reports that Sony had its best November ever for PlayStation console sales with the PlayStation 5. The PS5 has now sold 50 million consoles, something Microsoft can obviously only dream of with the Xbox Series X/S.
The gap is now widening and the ratio is currently 3:1, although in some European countries it is much worse.
“Given the momentum we had in November and what we’re seeing in December, we’re very pleased with the sales numbers overall,” said Eric Lempel, senior vice president of global marketing, sales and business operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment. […] “We continue to work hard and I think we will have a record-breaking year no matter where we end up,” Lempel said.
Christopher Dring, Head of GamesIndustry.biz expressed also: “The Xbox is virtually non-existent in Europe (outside the UK).”
