Grand Theft Auto VI was announced just over two weeks ago and will not be released until 2025. But the game from Rockstar Games is already breaking some records and now the developers can even bag their first award.
Somehow it was an announcement, but the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI turned the internet completely upside down. The announcement on X (formerly Twitter) quickly became the most popular gaming tweet of all time. The video itself now has over 155 million clicks on YouTube, making it the largest and fastest clicked gaming trailer ever. Remember, these impressive views came together in just 16 days!

But Rockstar Games isn’t even thinking about putting on the brakes. Because even if the game is not scheduled to come onto the market until 2025, it has now received its first award. That’s right, a title for which there is just a single trailer and nothing else was awarded a prize.
The awards for the Games of the Year 2023 have now been presented on the PlayStation Blog. For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was named Game of the Year and unsurprisingly picked up a few other awards. Alan Wake 2 bagged the title for best art direction and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was named best expansion.
GTA 6, on the other hand, can now officially call itself the most hotly anticipated game for 2024 and beyond. At least according to the PlayStation Blog. The statement states: “The debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI offers a tantalizing look at the variety and visual splendor that awaits PlayStation 5 players when they visit Vice City. Judging by the record views received by the trailer to date, the city’s population will explode when the game launches in 2025.”
There’s nothing left for us to say except: congratulations Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto VI!
