As we mentioned a moment ago, no manufacturer has a 100% success rate, and even if the brand’s engineers thought it was a good idea, it seems clear that it is not. not the case afterwards. AMD Radeon R9 Fury
This graphics card was launched by AMD in June 2015, and although AMD positioned it as a high-end product, in reality its performance was simply disastrous and fell far behind what NVIDIA was offering at the time. Additionally, because its manufacturing costs were quite high, its high price didn’t match it, and its sales level was disastrous, virtually no units were sold.
This was a graphics card that promised a lot due to the use of HBM graphics memory instead of GDDR, but since it only had 4GB it was literally insufficient for most games. Meanwhile, NVIDIA offered its powerful GTX 980 Ti and later launched the GTX 10 series, which left out the Radeon R9 Fury, making it one of the worst graphics cards in history, or at least one of the most disastrous launches. for AMD.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480
It’s the greens’ turn with their GeForce GTX 480, graphics cards that arrived at the height of the gaming boom, promising maximum performance at a time when AMD was taking the lead with its Radeon HD 5000 Series. It is true that this graphics card managed to outperform the high-end AMD of the time in terms of performance, but it cost $500 compared to $380 for the AMD option, and the performance gain was only 10 %.
But the problem wasn’t just the price, the problem was that this graphics card had a consumption of 200W (a stupidity at the time) and was set to over 90ºC for less than nothing. This, coupled with the “grid” shape NVIDIA gave its heatsink, caused a wave of internet memes at its expense. In any case, it was not only a commercial failure but also one of the worst graphics cards we have seen on the market so far.
AMD Radeon VII
In the era of the GeForce RTX 20 Series, which was by no means NVIDIA’s most capable family, AMD was quite behind in terms of market share. AMD was aware that it had to do something and decided to take a risk by launching a 7nm GPU, a data center version of the RX Vega: the Radeon VII.
The problem with this graphic is that it was quite inefficient, and even though it matched or almost matched the RTX 2080, it consumed 70 watts more, it was far behind the RTX 2080 Ti and on top of that without ray tracing technologies or scaling. Plus, it costs the same as the RTX 2080, making it another one of Lisa Su’s company’s great failures. Maybe it would have been better if they had saved it to focus on the RX 5700
NVIDIA GeForce Titan Z
The monstrous NVIDIA GeForce Titan Z launched in 2014 captured all the attention of users and media for its impressive features on paper, but it must be admitted that NVIDIA got out of control because it was launched at $3,000, a price that very few were willing to pay.
But price isn’t the only reason it’s considered one of the worst graphics cards in history, it’s that the Titan Z was a dual-GPU graphics card based on an already obsolete (Kepler) architecture. at the time of its launch. because NVIDIA already had much more efficient Maxwell graphics architectures on the street.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti 8GB
To finish this “selection”, we must include one of NVIDIA’s latest releases, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. And not because it’s bad, but because a few weeks later they put on the marketed their dedicated 16GB variant, making this chart meaningless and cannibalizing their own sales.
This isn’t a bad chart by any means, it’s just because a few weeks later we had a much superior GPU, with double the memory and for an almost insignificant price increase. Come on, launching this GPU made almost no sense.
