Nearby Share and Quick Share are the two fastest and most used ways to share files between mobile devices; Since last summer, Google has updated its solution so that it can even be used on PCs to move entire folders. This new experience was found through the breakdown of the latest version of Google Play Services which suggests that Nearby Share could be renamed to Quick Share; yes, replace it with the name used by Samsung.
Currently Nearby sharing appears on every Android mobile launched on the market by being linked to the Google system via Google Play Services. As is the case with Samsung’s Quick Share, the Korean brand’s mobile phones are widely distributed across the planet, so this merger has great logic.
Especially because when you have a Samsung Galaxy mobile both solutions overlap to complicate things for the user who doesn’t know whether to use one or the other. Google practically gained ground on Samsung last summer by launching the PC version of Near Share which, in addition to allowing file sharing between mobile/tablet and PC, also offers the possibility of transferring entire folders; which represents a great saving of time for this type of action.
Kamila Wojciechowska, developer and also known for her leaks, discovered several clues thanks to version 23.50.13 of Google Play Services
The new name appears reflected on the settings screen, the dialog box to discover and the button to share. But what is curious and important is that Kamila confirmed her suspicions with a series of screens showing the Quick Share experience. In other words, this suggests that it is not a simple name change, but that Google and Samsung would merge their two solutions to share or at least that they “get along or understand each other well”.
The objective, according to Android Authorityserious unify the two systems and thus not to confuse the user who often does not know if he should use one or the other while the two appear almost together when sharing an image, a video or another type file. For now, we will have to wait until Kamila’s discovery is confirmed by an upcoming announcement from the two companies. A cross-device file sharing experience on Android that’s improved exponentially from what it was years ago.
