At this point of bad luck, we obviously only have two options, either repair it (replace it with another one) or directly buy another laptop. Which option is best?
Well as always, we’ll say it depends. And it is not the same thing, as you will have understood, that a team has 1 year than 8. But, leaving that aside, there will be other more important points.
The first of them is the brand. We all know that an Apple computer does not have the same spare parts or the same prices as a Xiaomi computer. In other words, while a $1,000 computer from Apple can cost $400 for a new screen, from the Asian brand (of the same price) you can get it for 10 times cheaper, $40.
In this case, the evaluation of the change will depend on the price of the spare part, plus labor (if you do not dare to do it yourself). However, there are other factors to consider.
You should ask yourself what do you use your laptop for and if it’s really a laptop. Why am I saying that ? Well mainly because a lot of people (myself included) use it on our desk for working or watching movies, and even though we move it around sometimes, it behaves more like a desktop computer than a laptop. If this is your case, you will just have to buy a very cheap HDMI cable and/or adapter and use a monitor or even your TV to continue enjoying your equipment. An option that also serves to extract important data from it, even if you are not going to use it that way.
That’s to say, Even if your screen is dead, you can recover its data and continue to use it. And now it’s time to think about whether it’s worth fixing it or not. As we said, it will depend on the total cost and its years. In my opinion, a screen is usually expensive in relation to the total cost of the equipment, so, if it is more than 3/4 years old, you will probably have to look for a new one, because in the end they are like a car, something went wrong today, you fix it and after 2 days the battery no longer works as it should. You end up spending more than investing in a new one.
So now it’s up to you to decide. Remember that the screens you look at to check replacement cost may be of different quality, especially if you are on AliExpress or similar websites. That is, even if its price seems low to you, check the features, because in most cases they do not have the original quality or resolution, and you might be surprised once installed. So, in summary again, unless your laptop is very new, I wouldn’t change it and use it as a desktop while I think about buying another one.
