Anyone who has been playing for a large part of their life probably knows this scene all too well: a particularly tough boss fight is almost over. But in the last few meters the villain knocks us down. We only had to score one more goal. This is a very special kind of pain.
That’s exactly what happened to a brave player in Baldur’s Gate 3. His goal was to complete the game’s hardest mode while armed with two salamis. But just before victory, everything goes wrong and he cannot deliver the saving blow.
In the Netherbrain’s psyche, there is no one who can revive anyone, and the only figure left standing is on a platform that will disappear at the end of the round with no actions left or a way to have a safe platform to reach.
I was so close. SO CLOSE to beating Honor Mode using just salami. I am devastated.

You can also see what the whole misery looks like in the Reddit post that the poor guy wrote after his checkmate:

What is Honor Mode? With Patch 5, not only a new epilogue came into play at the beginning of December 2023, but also a new level of difficulty.
Honor mode is the hardest of the four difficulty levels. Bosses are stronger and have legendary actions. Anyone who completes the mode without their team completely dying once will receive a golden dice skin.
What’s with the salami? In the game you can not only equip daggers, battle axes or bows, but also salamis. And why shouldn’t you use this to beat the hardest mode? That’s exactly what the player thought and trained his entire team for the fight with Salamis. Why? Because he can.
In addition to many expressions of condolence and salami jokes, some players also talk about their own experiences. A user found himself in a similar situation, but luckily he still had a magic missile spell in his inventory. They always hit. And so this lucky guy got the golden dice, while our salami hero has to start all over again.
In addition, many Reddit users give helpful tips on how to create Honor mode (with or without salami). For example, by separating the individual fights by closing doors or resolving confrontations without direct fights.
