Amazon itself already announced last September that it was among its plans to carry out this action. Exactly what will happen is that while users are viewing any audiovisual product it is possible that the broadcast is suddenly interrupted and skip a few ads, although it has been indicated that the amount will be significantly less compared to television and other services.
Well, all this will become a reality starting next January 29, 2024, at least in the United States, the only country that for the moment has begun to send emails to its users to warn them of this imminent change. In Europe it is also expected to happen sooner or later, although at the moment it has not been specified if it will be on the same date, but what is certain is that we will not be spared from this decision.
The reason that Amazon has given for this change is that it will serve to earn more money, so that this will allow the platform to “continue investing in attractive content and continue increasing that investment over a long period of time.” However, ads can be avoided and removed completely in exchange for paying an additional subscription cost.
That is, a cheaper plan will not be added for those who do not mind seeing advertising. The current subscription will therefore remain at the same price, while those who wish not to see ads will have to pay 2.99 dollars (about 2.70 dollars) more per month, which means that the current price will rise from $14.99 to $17.99. On the other hand, in Europe the subscription costs 4.99 dollars per month, so we will have to wait for a statement from Amazon to know if the increase will be the same or less when it becomes official.
