If you know me and what I like, you shouldn’t be surprised that it’s my game of the year Alan Wake II I’m a big fan of Remedy’s work and even call control My game of the year 2019. And I’ve been waiting for a sequel Alan Wake Ever since I beat the first game the week of its release in 2010, I’ve naturally been looking forward to playing this latest Remedy game.

But while I was prepared for something great, I wasn’t ready for something as transcendent and confident as Alan Wake II. At a time when so many big AAA games (and even indie titles) are playing it safe and carefully avoiding big risks, Alan Wake II It swings for the fences whenever it can and most of the time knocks it out of the park. It’s the kind of game where it doesn’t matter whether you understand what’s happening or whether you missed something. It moves on and assumes you are smart enough to catch up or fill in the gaps. It respects the player and doesn’t feel like it has to fool you or back off for fear it might upset some fans. It’s just a matter of telling the story it wants to tell, how it wants to tell it, and that’s all. Either you come along for the amazing and unusual ride or you don’t.

At a time when I feel like every game I play makes me afraid that I’ll stop playing, move on to something else, or leave a negative review on Metacritic, Alan Wake II stands up confidently and says, “This is a scary horror game about twisted interdimensional paranormal nonsense and the artists who make the art we consume. Enjoy it or not.” And I love that.

I hope that in 2024 and beyond, more game developers and studios stop playing it safe and make what they want to make, no matter what the fans demand. The world needs more games like this Alan Wake II

Oh, and before I go, a few more honorable mentions. I would like Baldur’s Gate III a lot, but I was about halfway done and lost interest every time the fight started. The Empty room And Resident Evil 4 Remakes are both great, but so many of the original games I’ve played are more deserving of a spot on my top 10 list. Rest II is excellent so far, but I’m not far enough into the game to put it on my list yet. And finally, Juant is a great climbing game that just missed out here.
