Surveillance cameras from Amazon’s own Ring brand have become increasingly popular in recent years. This is not least because many of them are equipped with a practical night vision function, with which you can see what is happening in front of your front door or in your apartment even in the dark. If the feature does not work, you should check the following sources of error.
The default setting on most Ring cameras that support this feature is that night vision is automatically activated as soon as it is detected that it is necessary. This is the first point where problems can arise: If there is a lot of (flood) light in your camera’s field of view, it may not automatically recognize that night vision is necessary. In this case, remove such light sources. Simply restarting the camera can also help in many cases if the night vision doesn’t work.
Night vision: This is how you get the function working again
Does the camera recognize that it is nighttime and activate night vision, but the image is unclear or barely lit? Then there may be a problem with the camera’s infrared projector. Checks whether the projector is covered by dirt or leaves, for example. Alternatively, you can help yourself by installing a separate infrared lamp and pointing it into the camera’s field of view.
If the function does not work even in complete darkness, you should try resetting the camera to factory settings. If the night vision still doesn’t work, you should assume that there is a hardware defect. In this case, it is advisable to complain about the camera via customer service.
