Patent reveals spectacular idea that could reach mixed reality glasses in the future
Jony Ive’s departure caused Apple to lose many wonderful ideas. We see a clear example of this in a concept for the Apple Vision Pro that the designer had planned in a recently revealed patent. Although the concept was not implemented, It is possible that in the future it will be part of visionOSthe glasses software.
Apple’s patent details the company’s intentions to use the external display of the helmet
This feature is similar to EyeSight technologywhich has made its way into visionOS, and which shows a representation of the user’s eyes to those who approach the Apple Vision Pro.
The Apple Vision Pro could have had this feature designed by Jony Ive
The patent, of course, discovered by Patently Apple, was recently approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and indicates a concept that would display what is seen on the Apple Vision Pro display on the outside of the glasses so everyone can see it.
In the patent’s illustrations, you can clearly see some of the elements that could be displayed on the screen as hearts. Liked articles, analytical charts, weather information, photographs, space videos or a “Do Not Disturb” sign
Of course, as is natural with this type of patent filed by Apple, the fact that the patent has been approved does not necessarily imply that the feature will be available in the Apple Vision Pro. During its official presentation at WWDC 2023, nothing was mentioned about it
Although some users may see this as a clear intrusion into privacy when using the Apple Vision Pro, the truth is that the feature would be optional. Apple Vision Pro settings would let you hide what you see on the external display or simply use the EyeSight function which, as we said, shows a (very accurate) virtual representation of the user’s eyes.
The vast majority of rumors circulating online indicate that Apple Vision Pro glasses could hit the market in late February or early March. However, a recent leak suggests that its launch would take place on January 27, 2024. They will arrive in Europe at the end of the year.
