A patent from Electronic Arts describes a method for using AI to generate variations of sound effects in games.

The publisher Electronic Arts has applied for a patent for a system that can be used to create different variations of sound effects in games using artificial intelligence.

The patent is called “Neural Synthesis of Sound Effects using Deep Generative Models”

In the patent, EA describes the method as follows: “This specification relates to generating variations of in-game sound effects using machine-learned models.”

“According to a first aspect of this specification, a computer-implemented method for training a machine-learned generative model to produce sound effect variations is described.”

The new method means developers no longer have to manually adjust the base effects for different situations. In any case, today’s synthesizers are said to be superior to hand-made effects.

Another point is saving time and resources.

It states: “Creating variations of sound effects for video games is a time-consuming task that grows with the size and complexity of the games themselves. The process typically involves recording source material and mixing different layers of sound to create sound effects that are perceived as varied during gameplay.”
