The popular HBO series Game of Thrones had its (very controversial) final last year. The book template is still a long way off. The next part of "A Song of Ice and Fire" is still under construction – and has been for almost 10 years.
Now the fans could hope again. Book author George R.R. Martin made great strides in the next few weeks. The Corona pandemic, of all things, could now make Martin spend more time writing his next book.

George R.R. Martin writes every day
Yesterday Martin wrote a new entry on his personal blog. In it, he initially discussed how the global corona crisis affects him personally. Martin himself is already 71 years old and therefore in an age group for which an infection with Covid-19 can have fatal consequences:
"For those of you who care about me personally … yes, I know that because of my age and physical condition, I am one of the most vulnerable sections of the population. But I am still fine and we are taking all the necessary precautions."
In the case of the corona crisis, as with many, necessary precautions mean that social contacts with other people limited as much as possible
"In truth, I'm currently spending more time in Westeros than in the real world. I write every day. Things are pretty bad in the Seven Kingdoms … but maybe not as bad as they could be here."
What's next with Game of Thrones?
We have to wait and see whether the whole thing should accelerate the release of The Winds of Winter drastically. But even if Martin should finish working on his new novel, the book series is not over yet.

Despite fan outcry at Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin does not change the end of his books
The Winds of Winter is only the penultimate part. After that, a novel called A Dream of Spring will appear. But work on The Winds of Winter alone has been going on since 2011. So longer than HBO needed to completely film Game of Thrones.
