Night swimming
We’re starting the year with a horror film (yes, it had to exist) that promises to have quite an impact: Night Swim comes from director Bryce McGuire, who works with James Wan (Insidious, Saw, The Conjuring) and Blumhouse (Sinister, Megan ) for a dark and… aquatic story, imagine that. When a family moves into a new home, the father, a former athlete, recommends the in-ground pool to help morally and physically: but it happened without knowing it It contains a slightly evil mystery with paranormal phenomena that do not bode well. We hope the lighting effects and plans serve their purpose, as does the general staging: it would still be a shame to drink so early in 2024. Come on, we believe in it.
- Cinema release: January 3, 2024
- director : Bryce McGuire
- With : Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle
La Hess
La Hess has been selected at several independent film festivals and definitely arouses curiosity: the plot captivates us in the heart of the city in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, as a young man, Vlad, sees his sprinting talent gain unprecedented fame in the neighborhood. Yes, he runs fast, very fast in fact, and this ability would have a good chance of freeing him from the ghetto : The only thing is that the environment is not exactly easy between crime, a complicated family or simply the lack of money that pushes him to make secret purchases and everything that goes with it. With impressive photography and a real sense of staging, La Hess has a good chance of being a pleasant surprise, and after all, it’s not for nothing that it has received such attention from certain cultural organizations.

Bonnard, Pierre and Marthe
Emeritus painter, born in 1867, to whom we owe some paintings that are easily important for international culture (Large Dining Room in the Garden, The White Cat, The Bowl of Milk and many others), Pierre Bonnard is a great piece of French art and also deserves his own biopic. It is therefore Martin Provost (Séraphine, Where Does the Night Go) who is in charge of this project in which Vincent Macaigne will play the title role alongside Cécile de France: we will follow the rise of the painter and his personal development, his ups and downs Lows and especially his close relationship with Marthe, which definitely influenced him and his career. When the 3rd art meets the 7th art!
- Cinema release: January 10, 2024
- director : Martin Provost
- With : Cecile de France, Vincent Macaigne, Stacy Martin
Poor creatures
Probably one of the most anticipated films at the beginning of the year: it must be said that the pedigree of the director Yórgos Lánthimos is quite outstanding with films like “The Lobster” or “The Favourite”, while the critics have already praised this new project! “Poor Creatures” shows this Emma Stone as Bella, a woman resurrected by a strange doctor who will discover life and society with a certain madness and a touch of innocence. This feature, which moves between curiosity, poetry and comedy and has already caused a stir at the Venice Film Festival, also boasts a five-star cast including Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Strong!
- Cinema release: January 17, 2024
- director : Lanthimos Yorgos
- With : Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe
Nicky Larson – City Hunter: Angel Dust
Basically, Nickey Larson is a manga and then an anime that aired on television in Japan in the late 80s (here in the 90s): we follow the adventures of a former police officer who became a private detective in a black atmosphere and, let’s Say it, pretty stylish with lots of adventures. If the live-action French film released a few years ago left you wanting more, know that this mythical hero will return again in January under the guise of Japanese animation with City Hunter Angel Dust, a new Japanese feature film: Nicky Larson will investigate a strange technology that can transform soldiers into superhumans and will come into dangerous contact with various organizations. Whether for a nostalgic trip or simply out of curiosity, this new film looks pretty cool and we hope it offers a moment that lives up to the reputation of the cult saga from which it comes.

- director : Kazuyoshi Takeuchi

Ironclaw
We’ve long seen Zac Efron as a romantic actor connected to the teen audience of Disney series, but that era is long gone. From now on, the actor tries out much more varied roles: sometimes very dark (“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”, to name just one) or in specific topics, like here the wrestling of the 80s with Iron Claw, in this one he will star alongside Harris Dickinson (King’s Man First Mission) and Jeremy Allen White (the hero of the excellent series The Bear). Together, They form the Von Erichs, a brotherhood whose specialty is to achieve breakthroughs together in the ring and become real stars of the discipline and of American culture as a whole. A biopic that promises to be powerful, rather serious and visually sophisticated… and that’s not a bad thing. In any case, the press already seems to be convinced.

May December
A psychological thriller selected at the Cannes Film Festival starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore? Directed by Todd Haynes, author of “Carol” (multiple Oscar nominees) and many highly acclaimed works, who also won the Palme d’Or? This bodes only good and, we must not be afraid to say it, even excellence. “May December” takes us alongside a famous actress who, in order to best prepare for the role of the person she will play, will meet and spend time with her. However, there are consequences to putting ourselves in the head of a woman with a difficult past that had already roiled the press decades before: we are obviously relying on the filmmaker to convey as many emotions as love, sadness, anger and fear implements his visionary view.
- Cinema release: January 24, 2024
- director :Todd Haynes
- With : Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Charles Melton
For Argy
Argylle is a film that attracts a lot of attention and it must be said that its premise is quite original: We follow the adventures of Ally Conway, a novelist who specializes in writing a successful spy novel called Argylle, which is scheduled to be published very soon to become one with the feature film! A mise en abyme that deserves to be highlighted: In addition, the film promises to be an action-adventure that takes up the codes of James Bond and Mission Impossible with an almost parodic tone and also the performances of solid comedians like Bryce Dallas puts Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell… and even Dua Lipa. It’s punchy, doesn’t take itself too seriously and is undoubtedly very entertaining: remember that the film is coming to cinemas and shortly after on Apple TV+.
