Wait, is a fan-loved Netflix series now part of the “true” Marvel canon?

Anyone who loves Netflix’s Marvel series will be very happy about the following news: Apparently the Daredevil series with Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock is now part of it preserve MCU-Kanon. That means: The bloody brawl in the streets of New York didn’t take place in an alternative universe, but on Earth-616.

Daredevil: Part of the MCU since the Netflix days

At least that’s how producer Brad Winderbaum sees it. Because after his MCU appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, Daredevil returns not only for Echo, but also his personal new series Born Again. Of course, Vincent D’Onofrio is there as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.

Winderbaum was explicitly mentioned in the conversation ScreenRant asked about it, who provides the following explanation. The important things first: In his opinion, Netflix’s Daredevil series is definitely part of the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I can say with a clear conscience that we have so far looked very closely at what is happening in the real timeline and what is not. This is honestly a result of the phase when we said If we have projects produced externally, it has to be great. Another part of our company developed the Netflix stuff. We were clear about what they wanted to do and what they wanted to do, so there was a certain balance too.

Now that some time has passed and we have noticed how well these stories can be integrated, I personally, as Brad Winderbaum, can say with a clear conscience that [Daredevil von Netflix] Part of the true timeline.

Apparently it’s not just Winderbaum who sees it that way. Vincent D’Onofrio had previously said this in an interview Comic Book Central (from minute 19:00) indicated. If you’ve also seen one of the new trailers for Echo, you may notice that one of them uses material from the previous Netflix series. It’s best to take a look at it yourself:

Of course, it still remains to be seen whether the remaining Marvel series from Netflix (such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher) also count as part of the Marvel canon. According to rumors, at least Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Jon Bernthal als Frank Castle and thus return to their established roles for new Marvel projects.

The Agents of Shield case also proves that the situation is quite complicated: The seven-season TV series, which is always popular with Marvel fans, was only officially canceled in 2023 preserve Canon banned.
