Star Wars is at an interesting point in 2023. Several films were postponed or canceled following the mixed response Rise of Skywalker in 2019 and Solo: A Star Wars Story the year before. Since then, most new Star Wars projects have been TV shows on Disney Plus, starting with the top highlights of Andor to the lows of The Book of Boba Fettwith plenty Mandalorian, Obi Wan Kenobiand others in between.
At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm and Disney presented their plans for the future of the Star Wars universe, including informing fans about upcoming projects and confirming some release dates. And as of January 2024 there was another significant update with the announcement of a Mandalorian-led film. This adds to plans announced last year for Star Wars films to hit theaters on May 22, 2026 and another on December 18, 2026. One of those films is probably the sequel trilogy starring Daisy Ridley in her live-action return as Rey.

Coming to Disney Plus on August 23rd
Dave Filoni does this show about Ahsoka Tano, portrayed by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian. Hayden Christensen will also be there as Darth Vader, which likely places this story before the events of The Mandalorian. Ahsoka will premiere on Disney Plus on August 23rd.

Coming to Disney Plus in 2023
Jon Watts, the director of the latest Spider-Man trilogy, directs this show starring Jude Law and a group of children, set around the same time as The Mandalorian. Not much is known about it yet, but Watts has described it as a throwback to Amblin films of the ’80s The GooniesAnd Everything everywhere at once Directors Daniel Kwan and Scheinert directed one episode.
Coming to Disney Plus in August 2024
The best Star Wars property ever? I think so, and I’m not alone. Andor was crucial to Star Wars, and while details about the timing and scope of the second season are unclear, we do know that it will be 12 episodes and the end of the series. Season 2 of Andor is scheduled to be released in summer 2024, Lucasfilm said at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
Coming to Disney Plus in 2024
This show is set in the later days of the High Republic Russian doll Creator Lesley Headland will be a Star Wars crime thriller, focusing on a former padawan who teams up with her Jedi master. The cast includes Squid gameare Lee Jung-Jae, Dafne Keen (Logan, Its dark materials), Manny Jacinto (Nine perfect strangers), Dean Charles Chapman (game of Thrones), Carrie Anne Moss (The Matrix) and Chewbacca actor Jonas Suotamo as a Wookiee Jedi.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
The Mandalorian and his furry green friend are brought to the big screen in a film directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. No word on what this means for the future of the series, which technically has no season four announcement, but production on the film is set to begin in 2024.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Untitled Star Wars Movie
This was previously “Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie,” but The news came in March that he was replaced by screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Locke, Serenity). Obaid Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) directs. The new Star Wars film will be set in a new era called the New Jedi Order and will take place more than a decade after the events of Episode IX. The Rise of Skywalker.
Actress Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey (ahem, Rey Skywalker) in the film as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Lucasfilm says Filoni’s film will “conclude the interconnected stories told within it.” The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsokaand other Disney Plus series.” Given how much the third season of The Mandalorian Although focusing on cloning technology and post-imperial power struggles, Filoni may be trying to fill in gaps in knowledge about the return of Emperor Palpatine and the rise of Snoke in the era of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Untitled Star Wars film by James Mangold
Director James Mangold (Logan, Ford vs Ferrari, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) will direct a Star Wars film set in the distant past – some 25,000 years before the Star Wars era of the original trilogy – and going back (literally) to the beginnings of the Jedi Knights. Mangold’s take on the earliest stages of Star Wars will be “a biblical epic, so to speak.” [The] Ten Commandments“, about the beginning of the Force,” said the director at the Star Wars Celebration 2023.
Mangold explores questions such as “Where did power come from, when did we discover it?” [and] “When did we learn how to use it?” he said.

Not much is known about this project other than Waititi’s involvement (and co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns). It was not included in the January 2024 announcement of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars film.
Lando
Disney first announced this spin-off show about Lando Calrissian in December 2020 and hasn’t said a word about it since. On the one hand, that means it hasn’t been officially canceled – Disney has been pretty open about canceling Star Wars projects lately. On the other hand, there is no official confirmation that the show is still on or that Donald Glover will return to reprise his role Solo — but at least We know he’s interested inside.
Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film
Frequent Ryan Reynolds contributor Shawn Levy (Free guy, Deadpool 3) is making a Star Wars film. Not much is known about it other than he hopes it will have a “big heart.” But there are questions about whether it will happen; Levy was not included in the announcement of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars film in January 2024.
