The Last of Us: Part II Remastered will be released in exactly one week. As is well known, the new edition offers a mode in which you can really hit the strings. As the development studio Naughty Dog has now announced, a well-known composer and guitar virtuoso will be doing the honors here.

The guitar has always played an important role in The Last of Us. Ellie learns the string instrument from her protector and foster father Joel and regularly plucks the strings in The Last of Us: Part II. In keeping with this, the remastered version of the title offers a “Guitar Free Play” mode. In this you can play freely and choose from various types of instruments and figures.

Naughty Dog has now announced via X (formerly Twitter) that you can actually play a banjo. So nothing stands in the way of groovy chase melodies. There’s also a very special character who makes his way from the real world into The Last of Us: Part II.

This is Gustavo Santaolalla. The composer is responsible for the soundtracks of both parts of The Last of Us and thus plays an immense role in the dense atmosphere of the games. The delicate guitar melodies fit perfectly with the menacing and melancholic mood. Santaolalla’s appearance doesn’t come as a huge surprise; he has already stated in the past that he would appear in the new edition.

The Last of Us: Part II Remastered will be released in just one week, on January 19, 2024. It will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5. In addition to the guitar mode, Naughty Dog also offers you a roguelike game variant called “No Return”, native 4K resolution, reduced loading times and other graphics improvements.
