Apple and Epic Games are not happy with the US Supreme Court’s resolution because rejected the appeal of both and everything remains as it was previously decided.
The fight of Apple against Epic Games, or Epic Games against Apple, has a new episode, we will see if the last one. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholds the ruling that had been made, rejecting Apple and Epic’s allegations. What does it mean? Well Apple will not have to allow alternative payment methods in the App Store
The fight between Apple and Epic Games began years ago over Fortnite in-game purchases. Apple does not allow any of these in-app purchases to be made outside of its App Store, but it also does not allow users to be informed that there is another way to make these purchases other than the one offered by Apple , nor insert links to alternative stores. . This dispute ended with the game being removed from the App Store and a legal battle that is still ongoing.
The decision remains halfway, although the one who will surely be most unhappy about it will be Epic Games. The video game developer wanted other payment methods outside of Apple to be allowed, in order to avoid the 30% commission the iPhone maker takes. Apple wanted everything to stay as is, with no purchases that didn’t go through its store, and no could inform users that there were purchasing options outside of their App Store. Ultimately, that’s the only thing that will be allowed. Does this mean Epic will bring Fortnite back to iPhone? We will see.
