PlayStation Productions doesn’t stop The Until Dawn movie is in development, it already has a director and screenwriter and all the pieces are aligned to give shape to the project. And the fact that both the production company Screen Gems and the video game license itself are also from Sony greatly speeds up the procedures.
According to The Hollywood Reporterthe direction of the film Until Dawn will be carried out by David F. Sandberg, the director of the two raids of Shazam! in theaters. Of course, we cannot forget that his two previous works (never turn off the light y Annabelle: Creation) were more in line with what is expected from the first horror film based on a PlayStation video game.
On the other hand, the one chosen to shape the script is none other than Gary Daubermanwho already worked with Sandberg and to whom we owe the three films of Annabelleof which he directed two, as well as the script for the two parts of IT. A key choice for a very unique project that greatly reinforces the expansion of the PlayStation brand beyond video games.
For its part of games Until Dawn It consists of two titles (at the moment) and it is undeniable that its premise and narrative give a lot of play when it comes to being adapted to the film format: the original video game defined the style in 2015. Supermassive Games which will be cemented with all the installments of The Dark Pictures and The Quarry. Combining mystery and elements typical of that horror film. In a way, this movie will come full circle.
The cast is unknown at the moment, but if the same events of the game were adapted (a la The Last of Us on HBO) the choice of the main roles would be quite simple: the video game starred Brett Dalton, Hayden Panettiere o Rami Malek among others. In any case, and with the script to be written, it is not ruled out that a completely original plot is chosen.
The second video game, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, will accompany PlayStation VR on its own odyssey to bring Sony sagas to virtual reality. And although it maintained the horror elements, it was a rail shooter that took place on a lethal roller coaster full of dangers.
We have not closed the first month of 2024 and Sony’s arm dedicated to bringing its own video game sagas to the big screen is giving everything: just a few days have passed since the first trailer for Gravity Rush and now PlayStation Productions has just put a new name name on the table. Ahead, the adaptations of games like God of War on Amazon and Horizon Zero Dawn for Netflix plus a safe bet: the second season of The Last of Us, whose filming is imminent.
