Arriving on January 12th on the Netflix platform, Lift or En plein vol for the French version surprised everyone by reaching the top of the most viewed content rankings. However, critics are anything but praiseworthy, with a rating of 32% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What’s in the middle of the flight?

The unexpected success of this year is Lift (or In full Flight), which passes before everyone’s eyes on the Netflix platform. The film is directed by Francis Gary Gray, who is known for his highly acclaimed films, among other things Straight from Comptonand more recently Men in Black International. The story tells of a skilled and experienced art thief who, with his elite team, plans a seemingly impossible heist whose goal is to steal half a billion dollars in gold from a flying plane. The platform featured a five-star cast with Kevin Hart as captain and his team consisting of Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Worthington, Ursula Corbero (Tokyo at Casa de Papel), Vincent d’Onofrio and finally Jean Reno as the Big Bad Guy , who enjoys working with Netflix. The feature film has already surpassed Snow circle Released a week earlier, the film tells the true story of a Uruguayan plane that crashed in the heart of the Andes in 1972 and its survivors as they try to survive. The comedy completely overshadowed the drama.

What does the press think?

Despite the success, the press seems to be largely in agreement regarding the title. Many people talk about a real turnip. For IGN, “In Full Flight” is not a good comedy, the five-star cast is poorly used, and there is little effort to be funny. For the New York Times, Kevin Hart tries to get closer to Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible,” but doesn’t have his charisma. Le Parisien supports the same idea regarding the American actor, but still highlights Camila, played by Ursula Corbero, and Billy Magnussen’s character named Magnus, who, in their opinion, “perfectly combine a touch of humor and performance while maintaining tension.” On the big Ecran site, we take a harsher approach, describing the feature as “a competitive disaster with strangely random antiquatedness.”
