Every week we show you our Steam hits that no one knows. So almost no one. And those who are at the start are mostly enthusiastic. So if you’re a fan of indies and insider tips, just stay tuned.
This time with a strong strategy impact: We have a new Dune strategy game for you, a deck builder on the post-apocalyptic track and – more in the direction of a role-playing game – a dungeon crawler like back when it was still cool. Have fun with our Steam tips for the weekend!
Quick to the game (table of contents):
You can find out what’s currently popular in the mainstream on Steam in this article:
Dune: Imperium
Genre: Strategy | Steam-Release: 14. November 2023 (Early Access) | Preis: 22,54 Euro

In Dune Imperium the most important thing is: the spice has to flow!
Those familiar with the first Dune film know what happens when the spice doesn’t flow.
In Dune: Imperium you play alone or online against other players for dominance on Arrakis. The game is the digital version of the successful board game of the same name.
Hardly anyone noticed the release. The early access game has a strong 96 percent approval rating (around 800 reviews) on Steam. A real insider tip for strategy fans.
By the way: Do you already know the new survival game Dune: Awakening from the makers of Conan Exiles?
Frostrain
Genre: Deckbuilder | Steam-Release: 11 January 2024 | Preis: For free

Frostrain is reminiscent of Snowpiercer and is completely free
Not a licensed game, but certain parallels: Like in the film Snowpiercer, in Frostrain a train travels through the bitterly cold post-apocalypse. You have to keep the machine moving and the people on board alive in the style of a deck builder (like Slay the Spire).
To do this, you unlock upgrades and connect new wagons that fulfill certain tasks. In addition, the story unfolds a little further with every kilometer driven. A convincing aspect: the game is completely free on Steam.
Only a few have regretted installing Frostrain: 460 reviewers rate it 93 percent positively.
Spirittea

Spirittea mixes Stardew Valley with Spirited Away
Another one spiritual Template: Spirittea is noticeably inspired by the anime classic Spirited Away. The city is teeming with ghosts, but no one can see them except you. Now it’s time to rebuild the local bathhouse and run it successfully so that the restless souls can slow down. And getting clean is not an option.
Like Stardew Valley, a large portion of life simulation comes into the mix. This way you can also maintain friendships with the townspeople. The game relies on a pixelated, lovingly designed retro style. By the way, there is also a Steam demo to try out.
If you have a thing for Japanese culture, you might like Spirittea, as did 86 percent of around 370 Steam reviewers.
Path of the Abyss
Genre: Role play | Steam-Release: 21. Dezember 2023 (Early Access) | Preis: 6,89 Euro
Dark, dimensionless dungeons: In Path of the Abyss you go to kill nasty monsters as a single player in a 2D first person perspective. In the black and white vaults, every step can be your last, so be careful. Tactics play an important role in this role-playing game in order to penetrate the dungeons as far as possible.
Of course, you also develop your character, learn new skills and buy more powerful equipment and other tools from the dealer. Role play. There is also a story to discover.
And that is very well received by insiders: Even in early access, Path of the Abyss achieved 93 percent positive ratings from around 150 Steam reviews.
Esport Godfather Origin
Genre: Card game | Steam-Release: 4 January 2024 | Preis: For free
Okay, this is a weird one: Esport Godfather Origin makes you an e-athlete in the MOBA area, but you play the games as a card game, which seems a bit like Slay the Spire meets single-player Hearthstone
.
You have to build a team, train it, manage it during matches and develop strategies. The goal is to win the prestigious world championship title. The style is bright and colorful.
Sounds like a strange mix, but hey: 88 percent of almost 500 Steam reviews are positive. Definitely an insider tip!
So, have you found a game for yourself this week? Are you drawn to the post-apocalypse or the black and white depths of the abyss? Or do you always go where the spice flows anyway? Feel free to write it in the comments!
