If you have a few Amazon Echos scattered around your home, along with other smart devices that work with Alexa, you may have grouped them together.
Although they are called groups, they can also represent different rooms in your home, such as the kitchen, living room, and dining room.
This is especially useful if you have smart lights, because you can walk into any room with an Echo and say “Alexa, turn on the lights” and only the lights in that room will turn on.
But what if you want to move an Echo to another room? That’s exactly what we’ll cover here, showing you how to specify which devices are in which rooms.
Select the room you want to move from
Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry
Open the Alexa app and tap the Devices tab at the bottom. Scroll through the list of groups (rooms) at the top. Note: These will only appear if you created them.
We’re going to move an echo from the kitchen to the living room, so tap Kitchen in the list to get started.
Switch to edit mode
Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry
You will see a list of devices associated with the room you tapped. Tap Edit in the upper right corner.
Deselect the Echo from the first room

Now tap on the echo you want to move out of this room. In this case it’s Echo 4, so tap that, then tap the big Record button at the bottom of the screen.
Select the room to move the Echo into

Now, tap the < symbol to return to the Devices tab and find the room you're moving the Echo to in the list at the top.
Tap it and repeat the process from the previous step: tap Edit, then tap the echo you want to add to this room. The only difference here is that you select rather than deselect the Echo.
Again, tap SAVE and you will see a confirmation message.
That’s all there is to it, and you can add or remove other types of devices from rooms in the same way.
If you want to take it a step further, you can pair an Echo with a Fire TV Stick so you can use Alexa to control the Fire TV with just your voice, without the remote. You can also use an Echo speaker to stream sound from your Fire TV.
Likewise, you can pair Echo speakers of the same type for stereo sound, and even add an Echo Sub for better bass.
