Netflix has released a new trailer for its live-action remake “Avatar: The Last Airbender”But the more I watch, the more I think you should watch the original.

Earlier today, Netflix released the latest trailer for its adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender , and it places big stakes for Aang and his friends. It also better sets up the adventures they’re about to go on and actually lets us see some of the actors in action as these now iconic characters. Everything looks pretty enough, and the CGs of various creatures in the show, like the flying bison Appa and the winged lemur Momo, all look functional enough, but honestly, you really should watch the original. Animation display.

A big concern I had with live-action was the way the bends were presented, as things like wind don’t convey well in real-life environments – this trailer highlights those concerns and shows you why Animation is such a perfect medium for a show like Avatar. Thankfully, the original animated show is actually available to watch on Netflix as well, so if you’ve never seen it, you should make sure to watch it before (or instead of) the upcoming live-action take.

Last month, current showrunner of the live-action Avatar show, Albert Kim, said he was “scared” when the original creator left, which is understandable considering he had to fill the void.

The official synopsis for Netflix’s live-action Avatar explains: “The four nations of the world once lived in harmony, with Avatar, the master of the four elements, keeping the peace between them. But when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the air, everything Everything has changed.” The nomads, the Fire Benders took the first step towards conquering the world. Avatar: The Last Airbender tells the story of a young air nomad named Aang who reawakens to a war-torn world. Along with new friends Sokka and Katara, he embarks on an action-packed quest to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. ”

The show will be available to stream on Netflix next month (February 22), and we’ll soon find out whether it succeeds in capturing the magic of the original.
