Surprise! Ultrawings 2, a mission-based flight simulation previously available on PC and Meta Quest, is now available on PlayStation 5 and PSVR2. Fans eager to play the sequel on Sony’s console had no idea the game was releasing today. And it turns out the developers didn’t know either and are now trying to figure out what happened.
On January 25th Ultrawings 2 launched on PSVR2. Previously, the developers behind the game – Bit Planet Games –had confirmed that a version of the flight game should appear on PlayStation’s VR headset. The release window was originally set sometime at the end of 2023
On January 26thThe developers confirmed that the game’s release came as a complete shock to them, posting: “Shadows thrown Ultrawings 2 on PSVR2 wasn’t on our 2024 bingo card today, but here we are.”
In an answer When asked by someone if they shouldn’t have bought and installed the game, Bit Planet explained that the release was “unforeseen” and that the build had some “relatively minor issues” that had already been fixed in a patch, which was supposed to be released at the same time. The game will now be released a few days later.
Did Sony accidentally launch it? Ultrawings 2 early?
My city spoke to Bit Planet and asked what happened. Was it a mistake on Sony’s part, as some online have suggested?
“We don’t believe that,” Bit Planet told me. “We don’t know what happened. It could be something we did or didn’t do. I just don’t know (yet). I would like to say that we do not believe that Sony released the game by mistake.”
In a Reddit post, a developer of the game reiterated that he didn’t know what happened, but suggested that he may not have updated the release date information on the PSN backend.
“We had an estimated release date of September 2nd. fixed and look what happened. “Still, I think there’s a completely separate section for REAL release dates that was set for the end of last year and hasn’t been updated,” the said Developer on Reddit.
After My city contacted the developer Bit Planet posted a new tweet explained the situation, adding: “On a positive note, the Dayish 1 patch has been submitted and should be available within a few days.”
It’s definitely a strange start, and I’m assuming the developers aren’t happy that they couldn’t roll out the planned marketing sooner Ultrawings 2‘s start. But then again, hey, look at this, this is what we’re all talking about Ultrawings 2 on PSVR2.
