Apple software news is announced each year during WWDC, Apple’s worldwide developer conference, in June. In this edition we will have the pleasure of seeing iOS 18: the biggest iPhone software update in history, or at least that’s how they define it within Apple according to Gurman. A large handful of functions will come to the iPhone, giving it greater capacity thanks, among other things, to artificial intelligence. However, we still don’t know much about what new things we can discover in the coming months.
Biggest iOS update coming this year
We’ve been hearing about iOS 18 for a long time and its significant implications for the future of the iPhone. Among these new features are a redesign and a new approach to Siri, the iOS virtual assistant, equipped with its own language (LLM) which will allow us to interact with it in a much more natural way as we currently do, for example, with ChatGPT.
In his Sunday newsletter, analyst Mark Gurman assured that within Apple They consider iOS 18 to be the biggest update in iPhone history. However, year after year it is likely that the company views every major update this way, but this year it seems that it is going further and intends to lay the foundation for the future of the ‘iPhone.
I’m told that the new operating system is considered within the company to be one of the most important, if not the most important, iOS updates in the company’s history.
Gurman assured that will announce details and specific features of iOS 18 over the next few weeks. Although we do not have any new functions, we can recall the two key functions that will be in iOS 18 or at least those that have the greatest strength and consistency to be added in this new update.
A quick overview of what we think we know about iOS 18 so far
On the one hand, the admission by iOS 18 of RCS cross-platform messaging standard from the Messages app and we know this because they released a statement via media outlet 9to5mac. This standard will improve the messaging experience between iOS and Android with typing indicators, message receipt markers, improved group chats, higher resolution of photos and videos and much more.

And finally, something we’ve been talking about for a long time and which seems to be becoming a reality next June: the arrival of artificial intelligence to improve Siri. And currently, the iOS virtual assistant is lagging behind other assistants in other operating systems. Users have long requested a change to make Siri a much more useful assistant. And Apple will make it all happen power it with its own artificial intelligence which Gurman says will allow you to answer questions and auto-complete sentences, among other functions. In addition, Apple will be able to use its own AI to address the rest of its applications such as Pages, Notes or Xcode to integrate generative AI functions.
