Apple released the macOS Sonoma 14.4 beta to developers on Monday. This release follows the beta release of iOS 17.4 on January 25 and the official release of Sonoma 14.3 on January 22. This beta is for developers only, with a public beta coming in the coming days.
macOS Sonoma 14.3: New features
Although iOS 17.4 brought major changes to iPhone and the iOS App Store, the contents of macOS 14.4 are not yet clear. The release notes don’t list the content, and Apple has yet to release the developer release notes as of this writing. The iOS 17.4 beta contains new emoji, so version 14.4 will likely include them as well. And it’s possible that the update will bring features related to the Vision Pro launch this week. This article will be updated when the content of Beta 14.4 has been determined.
macOS Sonoma 14.3: how to install
Developer betas are available to anyone enrolled in the Apple Developer Program. Apple typically releases a public beta a day or two after releasing the developer beta. We have a complete guide to downloading and installing the Sonoma betas if you’re interested.
To access the public beta, go to System Settings > General > Software updatethen in the Beta Updates section, click the Info button (the “I” icon), click the context menu of Beta updatesand select macOS Sonoma Public Beta. You may need to restart the Mac.
Although beta versions provide early access to operating system patches and features, they are issued with the idea that users will test the software and look for bugs. This means that beta versions have some instability and may cause problems with your Mac. If you cannot afford to take the risk of a possible crash or usability disruption, you should not launch the beta version and wait for the general public release.
