The annual Game Developers Conference takes place in March, and Nintendo developers will once again attend the prestigious event. The Game Developers Conference takes place in San Francisco between March 18 and 22. Here’s what attendees can expect from the two presentations:

“Tunes of the Kingdom: Physics and Sound Development for ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ features the developers discussing how they structured the expanded Hyrule around physics-based gameplay and evolved sound design. Join game technical director Takuhiro Dohta, lead physics developer Takahiro Takayama, and lead sound engineer Junya Osada as they explore the challenges their teams faced approaching the popular sequel—which received seven nominations at 2024 Game Developer’s Choiceincluding the best audio.

In this session, they’ll share insights into Link’s new abilities, composing Hyrule’s expanded sound and music design, and how it goes hand-in-hand with (Ultra) to create a new experience for players. At the end of Mr. Dohta’s, Mr. Takayama’s and Mr. Osada’s speeches, they aim to give attendees and gamers everywhere a new perspective on the world of Tears of the Kingdom and the innovations within it.

GDC will also feature 2D and Tomorrow: How the developers of ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder’ Finds New Joy in Creating Classic Side-Scrolling Adventures. After last year’s launch of Super Mario Bros.TM The Marvelous Game, developers Takashi Tezuka and Shiro Mouri discuss the unique challenge of taking on the classic side-scrolling game Super Mario Bros.

The developers explain how new gameplay elements—such as Wonder effects that spin, spin, and transform the in-game world of Flower Kingdom—draw inspiration from Mario’s 2D past, but bring unexpected new surprises for players to discover. Mr. Tezuka and Mr. Mouri will also share insights into the game’s first creative steps, how they expanded player choices, and the process of adding a new online experience to the game. Wowie Zowie!”
