“We are Fallout 4.5” – Fallout: London isn’t quite Fallout 5, but it might help you explore the real London

Explore, Fallout, Isnt, London, real

As part of Bethesda’s massive community modding showcase C3, the team behind Fallout: London has provided some new insights into what we can expect from it, and it sounds like it’ll be more like a new Fallout game than a massive Fallout 4 mods.

If you’re unfamiliar, Fallout: London is a massive Fallout 4 modding project that lets you leave the Commonwealth and explore the ruins of the British capital. It’s been in development for a few years, and the team behind it has provided plenty of sneak peeks at the interesting factions and locations it will feature.

In the latest information released by Twitch about the mod, currently slated for release on April 23, Fallout London project lead Dean ‘Prilladog’ Carter, lead level designer Joe ‘Wolfy’ Wills and lead 3D artist Jordan ‘SunnyDelight’ Albon answered some fan questions about it and showed off a standalone version of one of the guns you can get your hands on right now.

The team paints a pretty cool picture of what to expect when you dive into the mod yourself. While Carter admits it’s not quite Fallout 5, as some fans joke, Carter calls Fallout London more like “Fallout 4.5.”

Consistent with this, it doesn’t behave like the DLC your character commutes from the Commonwealth to, with Prilladog explaining: “When you load up the game, from start to finish, you’re playing Fallout London.” Apparently, it takes about 15 to 25 hours to complete a game.

While stressing that they don’t intend for the game to be a “trip to London” per se, the modders outline that the world you’ll explore has a lot of cool local landmarks – such as stylized pubs – designed to ensure it showcases ” London feel” rather than just a collection of Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. They even claim that designing it helps them get a sense of the real London when attending parties.

Wandering the world, you’re likely to encounter a group of morally gray factions designed a bit like Fallout New Vegas, even if the “dressers” aren’t quite as cunning this time around. If you get into a melee with any of them, you’ll also have to be prepared to try some different combat strategies, as guns and ammo are much more scarce than in Fallout 4.

Speaking of guns, as part of this showcase, team member and modder Neeher (who we recently spoke with about Fallout: London) released more unique guns as standalone Fallout 4 mods . This is a set of Chinese pistols that I can’t wait to try.

Finally, the team said they have contingency plans in place for Fallout 4’s next-gen update, just in case an update happens around the time of Fallout London’s release and ends up causing issues. Thankfully, it sounds like rolling back the update will fix the problem.
