“The Day Before” will go down in history as one of the biggest scams in the video game industry. And the Fntastic studio has clearly stopped at nothing to try and get its game published.
Where to start with “The Day Before”? With such a busy story, it’s easy to lose track. But to summarize: the title was sold as a survival MMO and was quickly identified as a clone that mixed The Last of Us and The Division. The problem is that as the months go by, things feel more and more like a scam, with endless postponements and a complete lack of communication, which has alarmed some people.
Eventually the “game,” if you can call it that, was released, but it was a bloodbath. Non-existent content with a single small map, extraction shooter instead of survival experience or visual elements that were far removed from the presentations. The title was destroyed by thousands of people who wanted to believe in it by buying it. And most problematic are the conditions under which “The Day Before” would have been made.
The catastrophic development conditions of The Day Before
“The Day Before,” a game created with pain? Yes, but not for everyone. A few weeks ago, one person drew attention by denouncing what was happening behind the scenes. This former member, who definitely claims it, admitted that he was exploited as a volunteer and was fired overnight because he “It didn’t happen fast enough” and that he “wasn’t professional”, among others. But he also explained that he questioned the existence of the project, which the developers of The Day Before would not have liked.
Two other media outlets, GameStar and Game Two, conducted their own investigations and we learned things very similar to the previous anonymous statement. It is said that Fntastic’s leadership was clearly stubborn when it came to dismissals without good reason. Several people were reportedly fired for “minor errors,” and when some’s work was deemed unsatisfactory, they were apparently fined. One of the witnesses also reveals that his days could last up to at least 16 hours a day to complete “The Day Before.”
Mission to copy the best games on the market
In the first trailer for The Day Before we could see a strange inspiration from The Last of Us or The Division, and this is not a stupid coincidence. According to some, Fntastic attached great importance to the fact that its employees looked from right to left to identify the elements that worked best in this or that game, with the aim of reproducing them. But probably without adding an additional tab.
Worse, the developers would have designed up to three versions at the same time, which surprisingly would have led to gigantic general bankruptcy chaos. A monumental fraud, certainly committed for the wrong reasons, without creative vision and perhaps even desire, which unfortunately could only fail. Now it remains to be seen whether the plaintiffs will try to settle their scores in court if there is solid evidence to support all this.
In any case, “The Day Before” scam ended on January 22nd with the servers being blocked. Although some people are trying to revive it, there is no longer any official support for unknown reasons. The game is therefore unplayable and was already removed from Steam before this kill. Buyers have received or will receive a refund despite this failure.
