Google is accelerating with artificial intelligence in general and with Gemini in particular. 2023 has been a very interesting year for artificial intelligence and Google has launched Bard. It was a conversational AI intended to rival ChatGPT, but in our testing it didn’t perform very well.
Google promised it had better language models in the closet and, after an update of its intentions at Google I/O, they introduced Gemini in December last year. Today, Gemini is already present in more territories and it seems that it will be the future of Google AI, so much so that They would prepare a Gemini application that could replace Google Assistant.
An application independent of Google Gemini and the intention to fill its applications with AI
The name is essential for any service or application
And they have Assistant, but also Bard, and Assistant can now be “Wizard with Bard” because it’s powered by artificial intelligence. However, behind Bard is Gemini and… that’s another name to add to the list. For this reason, we announced to you a few days ago that Google would consider changing the name from Bard to Gemini directly.
This change will take place, if the forecasts prove true, on February 7, but it will not be the only change in the short term. And, as we read in 9to5Google, Google would prepare a Gemini applicationdirectly, for our cell phones which would be a kind of Assistant, but more advanced.
It is something that He found developer Dylan Roussel in an earlier version of Google’s website changelog and who talks about this Bard name change, but also mentions an independent app. The changelog is dated February 7, so this Wednesday should be official, but There’s bad news in all this if you live in Europe
And that’s it, This is the part where Google talks about the Gemini app:
“To chat with Gemini on Android, download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store, and if you have iOS, you can try it in the Google app. The initial launch will be in English in the United States. In the coming days, “It will be available in Japanese, Korean and other languages (excluding the United Kingdom, Switzerland, European Union countries and associated territories). Other languages and territories will arrive in the future.”
Therefore, it seems that AI regulatory measures will affect this expansion of the Google Gemini app, at least in its first phase, and this has not been absolutely said either. nothing about the launch of the Gemini app in Latin American territories
In the change log it is also noted that Gmail, Maps or YouTube will be improved with Google Gemini to make them more versatile and that we will be able to interact in different ways (something logical since it is an AI multimodal).
All that remains is to wait this Wednesday to see what Google announces and what’s going on with the app name and the supposed Gemini app. It is clear that this would be a move to compete with the ChatGPT application, but the fact that it is not launched in Latin America and Europe is a big blow for users.
In any way, and as we always say, This is not official information So at the moment we will have to pay attention to the company’s movements and, as soon as there is official news, we will tell you about it on Xataka Android.
