News culture “You’ve never seen a horror film like this” This disturbing slasher has a morbid twist that audiences really enjoy
Horror cinema is associated with several trends that are themselves very established. There are paranormal films, slasher films, psychological horror films, found footage, etc. Suffice it to say that it is quite difficult to innovate the approach and that we often find the same tropes, handled more or less well. But one particular film seems to want to shake things up a bit.
Horror cinema: a genre as valued as it is codified
It is not It’s not always easy to find horror films when you go to the cinema. Knowing that the audience is very targeted and that, apart from certain franchises (Conjuring, Saw), there will be no million-dollar admissions and cinemas plan late and there are only a few meetings. However, production is tight and there are many ways to get feature films. There are general platforms like Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+, but there are also specialized supports like Shadowz, Freakz ON or Insomnia. From short films to feature films, there is something for everyone, but as a specific genre, horror cinema relies on it on many codeswhich can be found almost everywhere.
Good productions are characterized by the way they use them, but few creations really change the situation. They obviously exist, but sometimes you have to look for them. To give an example we can take the case Project Blair Witchwhich brought the principle of to the fore Found footage. To give a realistic appearance and not confuse the viewer, The idea is to integrate the camera into the film as an independent element. The characters know it’s there and use it. This results in an almost documentary character, which is reinforced by the fact that what was filmed was “found” afterwards. It took a while, but Blair Witch gave birth Paranormal activity or RECwho reused these ideas.
In the eyes of the murderer
To shake things up, the director Chris Nash (Life Changer, The Void) decided to completely change his point of view his new film that premiered at the famous Sundance Festival. Titled In a violent nature and is expected to hit the Shudder platform later this year, this film completely changes your perspective. The feature film will not focus on the journey of future victims, but on that of the murderer. The viewer is projected into the eyes of the murderer and his bloody crimes. The presentation caused a stir and so did many viewers either before a cult work or before the next big failure Horror cinema. Overall, however, the public seems to be more open to the proposal:
It’s about time we had some slow horror cinema. A horror film without music that follows a silent killer from murder to murder instead of teenagers sounds pretty interesting.
I saw it at Sundance. The murders shocked the crowded house. I can’t wait to see him again.
I had the privilege of seeing this film in preview. This film contains some of the most believable murder sequences and is by far the most violent film I have ever seen. Nash is a genius and should not be underestimated, he will not disappoint you.
“In a Violent Nature” does not reinvent horror cinema, because it is nothing more and nothing less of a slasher (Friday the 13th, scream…). On the other hand, it offers a unique approach that, with its very cold side, risks disturbing a certain number of viewers. It remains to be seen whether the public outside the festival will react to this whether the film will be able to leave American borders at some point.
