Apple iPads have become synonymous with tablets for many people. Even though the decline in sales of these devices affects all manufacturers betting on this market, Apple remains in the lead. And it’s no wonder: it’s the company that pays them the most attention in terms of support with relatively common software updates and renewals.
The best tablet in the Apple catalog is the iPad Pro, available in two sizes. However, the only one that benefits from a better quality screen is the 12.9-inch one. Its panel is so large that for some users it’s a great substitute for laptops like the MacBook Air (even if the price isn’t right).
If we look for an alternative in the market, we will see that there are not many options to choose from.. Perhaps the most accurate and realistic option capable of competing with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, which is larger and has a spectacular OLED display.
But that was until the arrival of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2, the new bet of the Asian brand that seeks to take a piece of the pie from Apple with its advanced functions and features. Now that it is on sale in USA, we are going to put them face to face to know their characteristics, their differences and their prices.

HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2 VS Apple iPad Pro (2022), which tablet to buy?
The iPad Pro is undoubtedly one of the best tablets on the market for several reasons. The first is due to its characteristics, since it has practically no competition: high quality screen, very powerful chip (the same one that Apple uses in some of its computers), high resolution cameras, long battery life and compatibility with useful accessories.
The second is for your software and applicationsbecause in the App Store there is a wide range of applications that get great use from it, several of them for professional use such as Final Cut Pro for video editing or Logic Pro for music production.
This is why it is not easy to find a very good alternative. HUAWEI wants to try more than luck with its MatePad Pro 13.2, because On paper, it stands out for its features, but it takes something more to dethrone the queen of tablets.. We will comment below on its strengths and weaknesses, as well as some of the most important ones.
Strengths and weaknesses of the iPad Pro (2022)
- + High resolution Mini-LED screen
- + Refresh rate at 120 Hz
- + HDR10 and Dolby Vision support
- + Quite high brightness level (1,600 nits)
- + Powerful M2 chip
- + iPadOS 17 operating system with specific features for tablets
- + Good catalog of applications
- + High resolution cameras
- + Face ID
- + Very complete connectivity
- + Good autonomy
- – Fairly high price
- – iPadOS 17 is a fairly closed operating system
- – Accessories are sold separately (they are expensive and “necessary” to get the most out of the tablet)
Strengths and weaknesses of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2
- + High-resolution flexible OLED display
- + Refresh rate at 144 Hz
- + Support for 1 billion colors
- + Powerful Kirin 9000S chip
- + High resolution cameras
- + ToF sensor for biometrics
- + Good audio system
- + Connectivity to match
- + Battery with good autonomy
- + Higher price than the iPad (and accessories are included, at least in the offer on the official website)
- – HarmonyOS 4 operating system and range of applications may alienate many users
The operating system
Huawei has long been banned from using Android with Google serviceswhich has deeply caused the company’s sales to fall outside its home country, because although the hardware of its devices is one of the best and capable of competing with other top brands, without Google Play and search engine services it is not possible to take into account for the vast majority of users.
HUAWEI’s solution was to develop HarmonyOS, which is already in version 4 and has improved a lot since its launch. Among its new features are more forms of customization, performance improvements, notification changes and much more. The Huawei App Gallery, which is the equivalent of the Play Store, offers more and more applications, but we are still far from there.
For its part, Apple has been pampering its tablets for some time, and it’s also true that developers are paying more attention to iPadOS than on other operating systems, there are therefore more suitable and useful applications than on Android. Is iPadOS 17 a perfect system? Far from it, since it is quite closed compared to Google, but it is generally a safer bet for users who do not know very well what they are looking for or want.
The price (and accessories)
Although tablets are good entertainment tools in themselves, some users also use them for work or productivity purposes. However, they often use accessories to enjoy a more complete or satisfying experience.
Both the iPad Pro and HUAWEI MatePad Pro support styluses and keyboards with trackpads, but there are differences to be aware of. For example, on the Apple device, there are more apps designed to work perfectly with the Apple Pencil; HUAWEI will have adapted its apps to work well with the M-Pen, but it doesn’t have as much support from third-party developers.
However, HUAWEI includes the stylus and keyboard in the purchase of the tablet (at least for now through the official store, it is not known if as part of a launch promotion or not), something that in the Apple case must be purchased separately and the price is quite high. If you opt for the Magic Keyboard with the Apple Pencil 2, the joke can cost almost 500 dollars.
