Helldivers 2 has just been released for PC and PS5 and Sony can already look forward to its most successful Steam launch to date. Both sales and player numbers look great.
Helldivers 2 from Arrowhead Game Studios and publisher Sony was only released on Thursday and both companies can already look forward to a successful start. As Arrowhead Game Studios confirmed, the co-op shooter has already sold over a million copies, completely shattering the studio’s expectations. The proportions of PC and Playstation should be balanced.
On Steam, Helldivers 2 even became the most successful launch to date and even surpasses God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, at least in terms of player numbers. According to SteamDB, up to 155,926 players were playing Helldivers 2 at the same time over the weekend, putting it in the top 10 most played titles. Sony’s second most successful title, God of War, was only able to attract a maximum of 73,529 simultaneous players at the time.
The lively co-op alien shooting from the third-person perspective seems to hit the nerve of the players despite initial problems. And they can already look forward to new content, because Arrowhead Game Studios wants to continuously expand the title. “We will constantly be adding new things to the game! Enemies, objectives, biomes, etc. will always be free and will expand the experience,” the studio previously confirmed. A post-launch roadmap or something similar has not yet been presented.
In case anyone hasn’t noticed what Helldivers 2 is, according to the Steam description it is a third-person shooter in which the elite forces of the Helldivers fight for victory in an intergalactic battle to free the galaxy from the growing alien threat. From a third-person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and tactical equipment (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot down and kill enemy troops. The fights are characterized by blood and dismemberment of the alien opponents.
